My path to the public garden world has been circuitous and colorful, beginning with the study of mortuary science and eventually leading to the role of curator of the Kaul Wild-flower Garden at Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Alabama. There have beenmany exciting adventures along the way—and a few pitfalls; however, I have few regrets.A friend once told me that I am a poster child for anyone who thinks it's too late to change careers. It wasn't until age thirty-two that I decided to get serious about a career, so I became a registered nurse, the work I did for the next fifteen years.
