摘要

When members from three Louisville-area plant societies joined forces back in 1993 tohost a plant sale and educational event, none of those individuals could have anticipated that their newly formed partnership would evolve into the creation of a botanical garden on the site of a former landfill. And, likewise, when Cornell students enrolled in the fall 2012 course, Public Garden Management, they couldn't have known that they would play a key role in planning the future of that botanical garden. As the instructor for that course, I sought a semester project that would engage the sixteenstudents and give them a taste of the major questions and challenges that start-up gardens face. An inquiry to APGA led me to the Louisville-based group, Botanica, and their charismatic board chair, Brian P. Voelker.
