The mandate of the department is to collect, evaluate and maintain the germplasm of commercially important ornamental crops. It focuses on developing new varieties and standardizing the production, post harvest and protection technologies for growingfloricultural crops. The Department of Floriculture and Landscaping was established in 1994. Prior to this it was part of the Department of Vegetable Science. As an independent entity it has accomplished new heights in terms of enrichment of germplasm, release of varieties and new research recommendations in various flower crops. The mandate of the department is to collect, evaluate and maintain the germplasm of commercially important ornamental crops, to develop new varieties and standardize the production, post harvest and protection technologies for growing floricultural crops. The department has effective and efficient teaching and extension education programmes to meet the needs of the state. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses to students of college of Agriculture and 85 students have completed their M. Sc degrees in the discipline of Floriculture and Landscaping. The scientists have published two books, more than 300 research papers in the journals of national and international repute, five technical bulletins and three teaching manuals.
