Synthesis and characterization of polyesteramide resins from Nahar seed oil for surface coating applications

摘要

Three polyesteramide resins have been synthesized for the first time from purified Nahar oil (Mesua ferrea) with phthalic anhydride, maleic anhydride and adipic acid, separately. The polyesteramide resins have been synthesized from N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) M. ferrea fatty amide, obtained from methyl ester of the oil by treatment with diethanol amine. The synthesized intermediates and resins have been characterized by IR and H-1 NMR spectroscopic analysis, and by measurement of physico-chemical properties like acid value, iodine value, saponification value, drying time and viscosity measurement. The coating performance of the resins was tested by measurement of gloss, pencil hardness, adhesion and chemical resistance. The results show better performance of the polyesteramide resins compared to polyester resins of the oil. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
