Leaking hydraulic systems are costly in both time and lubricant, but if the maintenance engineer or plant operator doesn't check the depleted reservoir often enough, the machinery could break down or in the least overheat. If fluid consumption is not closely monitored, the cost of purchasing lubricant to keep replenishing the leaked fluid could be a bigger cost than many companies realize. Another consideration is the environmental implications of the hydraulic fluid leaking onto the floor. Left unchecked this is also a dangerous safety hazard. Contamination was one of the reasons Oil Safe Systems researched, developed and manufactured a system to make the storage and handling of lubricants much easier.
