The global chemicals community is a $3 trillion industry that accounts for nearly 10% of all global trade. In Europe, especially Germany, the chemical, plastics and rubber sectors generate roughly 3.2 million jobs in 60,000 companies. The U.S. chemical industry, by comparison, employs roughly one million people (according to Wikipedia). In India, the chemical industry is likely to experience growth rates of between 10% and 13% annually through 2020, with at least 33% of consumption expected to take place within its own borders.
