As a reply to the Letter sent by Dr. Hermoso-de-Mendoza about our article in Preventive Veterinary Medicine, I must declare that we agree with him: the reference to a cattle herd of “unknown status” regarding to bovine tuberculosis can be misleading. We were really meaning that it's status was “unknown for us” in that moment. We were assuming that, “as all bovine herds in Spain”, it was under test and slaughter campaigns, but did not know neither the prevalence nor the spoligotypes of “M. bovis” involved in the cattle outbreak. I am sorry about the problems that this lack, assumed as not essential for the content and aims of the article, could have caused to the authorities responsible of the National TB eradication programs in Spain.
