The international nonproprietary names (INN) of heterocyclic bicyclic compounds with antiviral properties end in -ciclovir (1).There are currently 14 substances of this type on the World Health Organization (WHO) list of INNs (2). Five of them {aci-clovir, ganciclovir, famciclovir, valaciclovir and valganciclovir) are marketed in France, for herpesvirus, varicella-zoster-virus or cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections.
