Anaesthetic ointments:fatal overdose in adults

Caution must be used when applying anaesthetic ointments to large areas of skin prior to cosmetic procedures such as laser hair removal. Overdose can have arrhythmogenic and proconvulsant effects. The deaths of two young women have been reported.Local anaesthetics can have arrhythmogenic and proconvulsant effects, even after cutaneous application. Massive overdose can result in life-threatening complications in children (1,2).North American government agencies have reported similar cases in adults.
