THE mould cooling constitutes not only the largest time segment of a moulding cycle but also excercises a far reaching influence on quality, appearance, dimensional accuracy, strength etc. of the moulding. Its importance, however, has been comprehended only partly. All measures, undertaken to improve cooling, aim at reducing the overall cycle time, either by cooling the mould more intensely through an improved cooling layout in the mould or by reducing the temperature of the coolant. The net result in most cases is a faster cycle but not necessarily a better product.
