GUEST EDITORIAL:RESPONSE TO RICK BERMAN'S MARCH ARTICLE

The April issue of Pork Network magazine ran an article entitled, "Canada Surrenders to Radicals" (page 30) by Rick Berman that requires a rebuttal. The state-merits contained within the article are rife with misinformation and do a genuine disservice to the swine industry in general.The author of this article has only succeeded in showing how misinformation can be used to create fear. Although this tactic has been used by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and other organizations for years, we believe that the best response to this is to properly educate the public. As an industry wehave nothing to hide and it would be better for all if we started acting like it. The last thing we need is another fear monger spewing off about something that he clearly has not taken the time to research.
