The stud farm concept, keeping males separately from their mates, with selection and specialised management for optimum semen quality and yield, has proved highly successful in turkey breeding. From time to time, interest is raised in the possibilityof adopting the same approach for broiler breeders. Two presentations at the recent symposium on the artificial insemination of poultry held at the University of Maryland, USA raised the subject once more.
