Political and. economical transformation in Poland, which started in 1989, has produced significant changes within the whole poultry sector. The former integration links within this sector were broken and the free market economy was introduced in Poland in 1990 in place of the previous distributive-commanding system In the former system, poultry production and processing were subsidised by the government The share of subsidy amounted to 75% in 1989. After the introduction of a market economic systemthe subsidy was withdrawn. The current activities of companies and farms have to be financed either by their own working capital or by an expensive bank credit.
