Asian growth clouded by avian influenza

Asian countries account for more than half the increase in global egg production over the last decade. China is well ahead of the field but there have been significant advances too in India, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia. The avian influenza outbreaks in several countries have brought about a reversal in the upward trend in egg output. It is not yet clear how rapidly their industries will recover and start on the expansion trail again.
