South Africa's confectionery market valued at US$1.6bn. in 2010

According to UK-based Leatherhead Food Research, South Africa saw a hike in confectionery sales of over 19% between 2006 and 2010. Value sales of sugar confectionery, gum and chocolate in South Africa were worth ZAR10.44 billion (US$1.6bn) in 2010.The country has one of the largest and most well-established confectionery markets on the African continent, with per capita consumption of chocolate in South Africa amounting to 1.3 kg last year. In terms of sales, the chocolate sector accounts for 50% of the overall market.
