The increasing market trend towards APEO-free water-based polymers has led producers of styrene-acrylic polymers to the development of alternatives able to reproduce the performance and applicability of traditional latexes, which have been in the market for more than 50 years. Despite a substantial change in the emulsifier used, which inevitably influences the chemistry and final properties of the base polymer, the target is to still offer the end users equivalent products, in terms of colour acceptance, water resistance and film transparency, while obviously not affecting the application behaviour when formulated in finished paints.
