Two novel maleimides containing an epoxy backbone, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and TDE-85 epoxy, were synthesized and characterized. The maleimides, coded EMs were prepared by reacting the corresponding epoxy resin with N-(p-carboxy phenyl) maleimide. EMs have lower softening and curing temperature and a wider processing window than the common bismaleimide. Properties of cured resins show that EMs have improved toughness and good thermal properties. Composites based on EMs and woven glass cloth were also prepared and their properties determined.
