Global PET packaging demand is forecast to rise by an average of 3.8% per year from 17.5m t in 2016 to 21.1m in 2021, lifted by strong growth in consumption in Asia, says a new report by Smithers Pira (Leatherhead / UK; www.smitherspira.com), titled "The Future of PET Packaging to 2021". Growth is forecast to remain strong in the developing Asia Pacific region, while gains in western Europe are expected to rise slightly. Weaker growth is forecast in other regions, particularly the Middle East and Africa, where regional tensions could result in slower gains going forwards, says the report.
