Ineos (Rolle / Switzerland; www.ineos.com) has moved to close its smaller cracker, G4, at Grangemouth / UK with immediate effect. The closing also includes the production of butadiene extraction (BE 3) at the same location. The company said no jobs are lost through the shutterings. The company had initially planned to shut down the units until 2016 in line with the first ethane shipments planned from the US. However, Ineos now says that production at both plant facilities is "no longer commercially viable. Both plants were built in the 1960s and their shuttering is a key component to our survival plans for the location," explained Harry Deans, CEO of Ineos Olefins & Polyolefins UK.
