Japan scrap exports heading for new record

After several slow months Japan’s ferrousscrap exports soared in June by 14% toreach nearly 857,200 metric tons, thesecond highest volume this year afterMay’s 904,000 mt, according to JapaneseCustoms data. The June result also meantthe January-June total topped 4.78 millionmt – up 15.5% from the same period lastyear. Annualized, this translates to 9.55million mt, which if achieved would beat the2009 record of 9.4 million mt.
