North Carolina Governor Expresses Concern Over Proposal to Use Pesticide at Navy Field

RALEIGH,N.C.-North Carolina Gov.Mike Easley (D)has significant concerns over the proposed use of the pesticide Avitrol to control birds at the airfield planned by the U.S.Navy for eastern North Carolina,the governor's office said March 16.According to the announcement,Easley sent a letter March 16 to state agencies and certain organizations warning of the danger of the proposal.In that letter,the governor said the Navy's proposal to control birds "is "clearly a plan that would destroy"the nearby Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
