The paper presents the resultsof the study of abundance, biomass, mean cellvolume and secondary production of bacteriainhabiting a marine-bay sandy beach, at south-ern Baltic Sea coast (Sopot) in summer season.The differences of bacteriological parametersamong sites across beach horizontal profile weredetermined. Maximal value of the total bacterianumbers (8.59 ± 0.73 x 10~7cells g~(dw), biomass(15.2 ± 4.4 μg C g~(-1) dw) and cell volume of bac-terium (0.056 ± 0.011 μm~3) was noted at the wa-terline and bacterial secondary production washighest in the dune (172.3 ± 86.6 lig C g-1dw d-1)and at the waterline (119.9 ± 40.5 μg C g~(1)dwd~(1)).Marked differences in the level of bacteriologicalparameters between surface and subsurface sandlayers were etimated. In the sea, at the waterlineand in the middle of the beach higher numbersof bacteria, their biomass and secondary pro-duction were found in the surface (0-1 cm) thanin the subsurface (5-10 cm) sand layers. A re-verse situation was observed in the dune.
