New York-Wellman Inc.issued a 4 cts/lb surcharge on PET shipments effective immediately due to shortage of and higher transportation costs of monoethylene glycol,a company source confirmed September 15.MEGlobal and Shell declared force majeure on MEG deliveries after Hurricane Gustav in the first week of September.The US MEG supply and transportation issue became more severe after Hurricane Ike whipped through Texas over the weekend and forced all but one MEG plant in Texas offline.
