Santos' first-half profit up as production jumps 24%

Sydney-Australian E&P company Santos Aug 25 posted net profit of A290-mil(218-mil)for the first half of the year,up 240% from the year-ago period when earnings were affected by lost production caused by an explosion at the Moomba gas processing plant in Australia.First-half revenues were A1.019-bil,up 73% year-on-year and topping Al-bil for the first time in company history.Santos' production in the first half rose 24% to 26.3-mil boe and included the benefit of the company's Mutineer-Exeter oil field off Western Australian coming on stream ahead of schedule.Santos increased its full-year production forecast to 55-mil boe,up from 47-mil boe in 2004,with a further rise of at least 10% expected in 2006.
