Williams ekes out small profit while fellow US merchants post 2Q losses

Four big US merchant energy players took another battering in second quarter results reported Aug 12. Aquila, CMS Energy and Reliant Resources all reported losses while Williams eked out a tiny recurring profit. Williams touted an overall profit of US270-mil or US0.46/share in the quarter, up from a year-ago loss of US349-mil or US0.68/share, sending its stock up9 more than 6% to US8.35/share.
