For BP, a decade of frontier exploration on Alaska's North Slope produced just 160-mil bbl of new reserves, while working existing fields in the same region added 900-mil bbl. Perhaps that explains why the company abandoned Alaska wildcatting last year and moved its exploration office to Houston.
