National Science Day is celebrated every year to honour the Indian Nobel laureate Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman for his invention of the Raman effect which was announced on February 28 1928. For this, the first Indian was awarded with prestigious Nobel Prize in Physics during the year 1930. "Raman" effect led to the growth of a new discipline in the .science, "Spectroscopy", which has now become a powerful tool for a wide range of scientific investigations and industrial applications. Hence the commemoration of National Science Day holds great significance for scientific community.
