Organic Farming - Are Coffee Planters Ready?

Organic farming, known as nature farming or sustainable agriculture in different nomenclature, is not an entirely new concept. When human civilization started with organized farming, there were no chemical fertilizers or synthetic pesticides. But, when population gradually increased over time, the output from natural farming was found insufficient to feed the millions of mouth. Hence, the farmers and government agencies tried various techniques to increase productivity which ultimately culminated inthe use of hybrid seeds, irrigation and of course, the invention/discovery and use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. It is the same Western Civilization which were responsible for manufacturing, marketing and usage of the so called 'poisonous' synthetic chemicals are now crying foul. As usual, the Indian elite from the ivory towers and the arm-chair scientists started echoing the new mantra.
