Genesis and evolution of CTC tea manufacture and its adoption in south India

The origin and development of "crush-tear-curl" (CTC) tea manufacture in northeast India and transfer of the technology to tea industry in south India have been traced in detail. The principle underlying ten manufacture, emergence and evolution of theidea into a concept and formulation of the technology have been discussed. The advantages and benefits accruing due to CTC manufacture and the enhanced cuppage due to CTC have been narrated. The way CTC process revolutionized the tea manufacture and itsunparalleled contribution by way of increased cuppage, holding the demand-supply equation in balance have been highlighted.
