MANURING OF TEA IN SOUTH INDIA - REVISED RECOMMENDATIONS (2014)*

Manuring of tea is aimed at enhancing the growth of the vegetative phase during the growing season making available all the essential nutrients in optimum quantities as per the requirement of tea bushes for sustainable productivity. It is vital to integrate the climatic, soil, plant and cultural factors for obtaining maximum return for the investment on fertilizer application and for sustaining bush health and the productivity. The increase in productivity due to sound manuring practices is expectedto be around 25 per cent while the cost of manuring is only 6-10 per cent of the total cost of production. The concept of manuring in south India is mainly based on "Expansion ratio manuring" which is primarily built on "Replacement theory". The last revision in manuring recommendation was made in the year 2006 and over the years there were changes in cultural, plant protection and other management techniques. Therefore it was decided to review and revise our recommendations on manuring based on the experimental findings and authentic literature.
