Ashland to Acquire Hercules

Specialty chemicals company Ashland, Inc. (Covington, KY; www.ashland.com), has agreed to buy Hercules, Inc. (www.herc.com), the Wilmington, DE-based specialty chemicals and additives maker. Under the merger, Ashland will acquire all outstanding shares of Hercules for approximately 3.3 billion. The merger will allow Ashland to expand its global reach to growth markets including China, Eastern Europe and Brazil, through the development of three core specialty chemical businesses: specialty additives and ingredients, paper and water technologies , and specialty resins.
