Seedling resistance to leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f.sp. tritici) was studied in 20 single D-genome substitution lines of winter triticale Presto, 7 disomic addition lines of Grana (wheat)/Dankowskie Zlote (rye), and the parental forms grown under greenhouse conditions. Seedlings at the 2-leaf stage were exposed to 4 leaf rust pathotypes (4c, 40b, 83c and 95b) predominant in Poland. Resistant or moderately resistant reactions were typical for all substitution lines of triticale Presto, with 1D(1A), 4d(4R) and 5D(5R) exhibiting high levels of resistance. This indicates that chromosomes introduced from the D-genome carried resistance genes. Among the addition lines, only GH 2R was highly resistant to all pathotypes used. Patterns of seedling resistance of substitution and addition lines indicated that chromosome 2R is responsible for the resistance to the disease..
