Intel to Build New 30o-mm Wafer Factory

Intel Corp.(Santa Clara,CA;www.in-tel.com)is constructing a US3 billion,300-mm wafer fabrication facility at its site in Chandler,AZ.Slated to go online in the second half of 2007,the facility will employ 45-nm process technology.The structure will be about 1 million ft2 with 184,000 ft2 of cleanroom space.Intel currently operates four 300-mm fabs that provide the equivalent manufacturing capacity of about eight 200-mm factories.An additional 300-mm fabrication facility being built in Arizona is scheduled to begin operations later this year,and an expansion in Ireland will launch in the first quarter of next year.
