The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO; Canberra, Australian Capital Territory; www.csiro.au), in collaboration with Solar Systems Pty. Ltd. (Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia; www.solarsystems.com.au) is demonstrating a concept for integrating solar thermal energy and methane gas to produce synthesis gas (or syngas) that can be used as a power-generation fuel gas, as a metallurgical reducing gas or gas chemical feedstock. "CSIRO is currently presenting the technology to potential partners in the gas-supply industry as an economic option for large-scale energy delivery," says Greg Duffy, CSIRO's energy technology project leader.
