Aluminum-based pet catalyst bears high activity at low cost

Toyobo Research Center Co.(Shiga,Japan;www.toyobo.co.jp)hasI developed a new type of catalyst for the production of polyethylene terephthalate(PET)resin that is based on aluminum and plans to commercialize this catalyst in the near future.The catalyst exhibits a high degree of activity,but is based on a metal that is safe and,which,until now,has not been known to exhibit catalytic activity towards PET polymerization.
