Making Biodiesel More Attractive

Researchers at the Univ.of Missouri-Columbia (www.missouri.edu) have developed a process that could reduce the cost of biodiesel production by as much as us0.40/gal.The technology converts glycerin,a byproduct of biodiesel production,into propylene glycol,a compound that can be used as nontoxic antifreeze for automobiles,at unprecedented high yields and at a lower pressure and temperature than competing routes under development at other institutions.
