Prepare Industry Code on Copyrights or Face Legislation, Australia Tells ISPs

The Australian government has instructed ISPs and rights holders to jointly prepare a code to deter copyright infringement, warning it will impose its own controls on ISPs if the attempt fails. In a letter sent on Dec. 10 to ISPs and rights holders, Attorney-General George Brandis and Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the government wanted a code drafted by April 2015 that would be suitable for registration under the Telecommunications Act 1997.
