摘要

The motorways remaining to be built in France are national development trunk roads carrying moderate traffic, usually financed by a concession arrangement with the toll operator. For capital expenditure and operating costs to be covered by the low level of traffic, savings must be looked for, although without bringing into question the major principles of a motorway. The A29 motorway project between Amiens and Saint-Quentin provided an answer to this problem through a value analysis type review of all aspects : 1. Appropriate geometric characteristics; 2. Balanced earthworks with neither earth deposition not borrowing; 3. Innovative roadway structures exploiting local materials and recycling; 4. Economical civil engineering structures; 5. Suitable operating equipment. Due to these systematic reviews, the final cost of the project was able to be kept at a particularly low level, consistent with the traffic levels.
