Coast Guard missions discussed at hearing

The new Congress continues to be concerned about the U.S. Coast Guard's ability to manage its many missions, especially given its tight budgets, small workforce and aging equipment. At its first oversight hearing of the year on Feb. 26, the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation focused on how well the service is balancing its diverse set of 11 missions, which range from drug interdiction to icebreaking to port security.
