Lamella plant brings benefits

Water companies face three key challenges: reducing operational expenditure with significant savings on consumables and manpower required; minimising operational risks, and hence unexpected events, to ensure that the serviceability measures set by Ofwat are met; and, finally, demonstrating value for money on any capital expenditure undertaken and that this is the most 'cost beneficial' to the customers. The consequences of failing to deliver on all three of these areas are considerable: if water companies do not perform, Ofwat can potentially reduce the company's next AMP investment plan in line with the serviceability measures which it fails to achieve. Water companies cannot then pass this shortfall in investment onto consumers, but must instead look to their shareholders or other means of funds to cover the shortfall.
