Like many energy-intensive industries, paper manufacturing can benefit from the use of an on-site power station. Such industries are also under constant pressure to reduce their environmental impact and, in particular, their reliance on fossil fuel usage. Combined heat and power (CHP) plant are fairly common in continental Europe (less so in the UK), with the thermal output from the power generation process being used for industrial purposes, as is the case within paper production.
