AWA and the Sustainability Specialist Network Committee were pleased to launch the AWA Water Sector Sustainability Framework at Ozwater'11. AWA National Manager - Policy, Andrew Speers, assisted by David Nixon, Convenor of the Sustainability Specialist Network Committee, unveiled the Framework to members of the water industry. The workshop was well attended by both sustainability practitioners and non-practitioners alike, and provided the opportunity for attendees to learn about the Framework, hear from colleagues implementing sustainability in the water sector and discuss implementation of the Framework. In introducing the Framework, Andrew discussed the drivers in the water sector for sustainability action, noting that in a survey conducted in 2008, AWA members called for a sector-wide structure that supports sustainability. Andrew explained that the Framework was, therefore, developed to assist AWA's Corporate Members embed sustainability principles and practices within their business activities, and to encourage organisations to assess their progress.
