Growing support for private sector participation: developing the Middle East water sector

Abu Dhabi continues to take huge strides in developing its water and wastewater sector, with one recent project being the signing of a 25-year power and water purchase agreement by global energy company GDF Suez with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC) for the Mirfa Independent Water and Power (IWPP) project. Located 120km from Abu Dhabi, the $1.5 billion Mirfa project is the Emirate's tenth facility to be built under the public-private partnership model.
