Currently, landfills are the most common method of MMW management utilized in the Czech Republic. In 2006 75% of all municipal waste was landfilled; approximately 20% of which was recovered (11-12% from recovery of materials and 9% recovery of energy). In recent years, numerous discussions have been held with regard to the implementation of MBT (Mechanical Biological Treatment) in the Czech Republic. However, these technologies are still not operational within the Czech Republic, despite the fact that their implementation in some regions has long been considered. Additionally, this situation is caused by the fact that conditions (including legislative) required for MBT operation in the Czech Republic have not yet been defined.
