AUSTRALIA'S liquefied natural gas sector has had a difficult year, especially with troubles at the Prelude and Gorgon projects, but production has been steady all year and there is a quiet sense of optimism about the country's LNG growth. The Prelude floating LNG project was supposed to be a crowning achievement for Shell in 2020, the year in which the gigantic vessel hit its stride. Instead, following a very patchy year of production in 2019, Prelude shut down in February and is still offline, although LNG market watchers believe Shell is closing in on a restart.
