PTTEP is moving its Block M-3 gas-to-power project in Myanmar into the engineering and design phase as expectation builds that the Thai state player's development plan will soon be approved. The company has been waiting all year for the Myanmar government to approve the M-3 field development plan and said in a conference call on 6 August that it expects to receive approval in the fourth quarter. In preparation for that approval, PTTEP has approached the contracting market for a basic engineering study for the development of the Aung Sinkha field on Block M-3. The M-3 offshore project is likely to host two wellhead platforms and a subsea pipeline to shore. There will also be an onshore element to the project, with a gas-fired power plant to supply the Myanmar domestic market.
