Three in chase for contract

AT least three bidders are chasing another East Med contract covering front-end engineering and design review and certification. A source familiar with the bid process said the players vying for this job are thought to include DNV GL, Italy's Rina and Lloyd's Register. However, it is unclear if either Bureau Veritas or ABS is also in the hunt for what is expected to be an 18-month contract. Initial responses for the contract expected to be worth more than $1.2 million were submitted in March. The workscope includes the design appraisal of the East Med FEED output for the offshore and onshore pipelines and associated facilities in order to certify that they comply with selected codes and standards and project specifications. Meanwhile, Italy-based Lighthouse has secured a contract to carry out a detailed marine survey of IGI-Poseidon's East Mediterranean pipeline. The Bologna-based player will carry out a high-resolution route and geohazards survey to support the completion of an engineering design programme. Data from these surveys will be critical elements needed to support the engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract that Saipem and Allseas are competing to land for the challenging pipeline. The survey campaign calls for work on all four offshore segments of the pipeline, as well as related nearshore and onshore surveys at five respective landfalls.
