Gotthard drives push ahead

Almost three quarters of the tunnel excavation and nearly two-thirds of the invert lining on the 57km long twin bore Gotthard Base Tunnel had been completed by the beginning of last month, which also saw the trackwork and equipment contract having been finally signed.By the beginning of May, a total of almost 110km of tunnels, galleries and passages had been excavated on the project out of 153km. The total length of drives during April was 1,090m. So far, of the total 113km of concreting works required, 61 % of the invert has been lined and 38% of the vault.
