Progress made on Oldham loop

This sequence of pictures (taken on September 6) shows the latest progress on the Oldham town centre section of the Manchester Metrolink. The current line follows the former Network Rail route to a terminus at Oldham Mumps, but is due to be extended to Rochdale later this year. Then, in 2014, a deviation through Oldham town centre should open, at which point the section through Werneth and Central tunnels will close. The first picture shows the point where the town centre loop will leave the present formation at the site of the former Oldham Werneth station.
