Wagon fire closes WCML for three days

A fire on board one of the wagons in Network Rail's medium output ballast-cleaner train on May 30 caused disruption to the West Coast Main Line until June 2! The wagon fire was near Norton Bridge, Staffs, and occurred just before 20.30 in a train hauled by DB Schenker Class 60 No. 60059 on the up slow line. Two Virgin Trains services had entered the area when the decision was made to isolate the OLE to fight the fire, which was extinguished at around 22.00.
